Culture Data

U.S.G.S. Quad-based (DLG) National Topological Culture File

These data sets include transportation and hydrography from the Digital Line Graphs (DLGs) digitized from the 1:100K topographic quadrangles and the National Geographic Names database, one of four that comprise the Geographic Names Information System (GNIS). The data have been reprocessed and reorganized, and the multitude of feature codes have been combined into distinct attributes, providing more flexibility in mapping select features. In addition, topology has been applied, allowing for select water features to display as polygons.

The National Tobin 1:100K Culture Data Culture File is a product of the merging and processing of attributes from two databases originally created and distributed by the National Cartographic Information Center of the U. S. Geological Survey (U.S.G.S.).

Scale:

1:100K

Selection Options:

  • State
  • County

Additional Features:

  • All features carry state and county attributes.
  • All features carry a FEATURE attribute which is a label for the feature (e.g., Airport, Railroad, Stream, Canal).
  • Point features are typically identification for the polygon and line features, plus points of interest within the county or state area.

Coverage:

Lower 48 United States

Select Gulf Coast Culture Features

The select Gulf Coast culture features were digitized by Tobin from the orthophoto map base in Texas and Louisiana and from the U.S.G.S. 7.5-minute topographic quadrangles in Oklahoma, Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas and Florida. The features are also fitted to the SuperBase Landgrid and Survey Data. The Oklahoma file includes select transportation and hydrography features published on the U.S.G.S. quads. The Florida file includes both major roads and water features, while the Texas Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Arkansas files include only major water features.

U.S.G.S. Quad-based (TXDOT) Texas Culture Data

Digitized from U.S.G.S. 7.5-minute topographic maps by the Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT), the Texas culture data has been reprocessed in order to make it available in a variety of formats. The file includes transportation, hydrography and county and corporate boundaries. Services can also be provided to update this product by using the recent Tobin orthophoto map base.

Scale:

1:24K

Coverage:

  • TXDOT - State of Texas
  • Select water features - Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas
  • Select water and transportation features - Florida and Oklahoma

Alaska Digital Culture File

The Alaska 1:2M Culture File was purchased from the Alaska Department of Natural Resources and is a product of the same merging and processing of attributes as the 1:100K Culture File. Tobin also offers a higher resolution culture product for Prudhoe Bay, Cook Inlet and North Shore.
