Shale Play Lease Activity |
Introducing "Tobin Trends"
P2 Energy Solutions introduces Tobin Trends, a new web-only feature that will highlight the data we have available for three shale plays: the Barnett, the Haynesville, and the Eagle Ford.

Tobin Trends takes a high-level look at the shale plays to give the industry a view of where the most lease activity is turning up on a county-by-county basis. P2 tracks new leases by gathering the data from county courthouses. The information from each lease is then digitally mapped.
Points vs. Polygons
Tobin offers two lease products: Lease Activity data and our Digital Lease Updates. Lease Activity delivers lease information quickly as a database file that can be used to create point locations on a map.
If the lease is larger than 20 acres, our technicians create a polygon based on the legal description and match it to our SuperBase™ set of conforming map data layers.
Lease Activity and Lease Updates are issued on a monthly basis. Customers may license lease data by the county or by the region. Click here to learn more.
Shale Play Lease Updates: The Advantage
Companies using Lease Activity get the very latest, accurate information about who is leasing what and where. The data provides a significant strategic advantage. Using Tobin Digital Lease data, companies can not only track competitors' leases, they can track when those leases expire.

Even now, as the price of natural gas has depressed lease activity across the shale plays, forward-thinking exploration teams use the "slow" time to work on building prospect inventories and solidifying the lease basis of prospects for future drilling, when commodity prices are better. Tobin Digital Lease Data is the perfect choice for building lease inventories.
Shale Play Trends
To start our Tobin Trends series, we took a look at the most recent six-month period of information, from August 2009 to January 2010 (to learn more about why some of the data is delayed, click here). We looked at all the leases that we sent out to our clients and totaled them up by county to give you a view of leasing activity.
We then took it a step further and looked at the leasing activity for the same time a year before to put the data into some context. Click on a shale play below to see the data.

Eagle Ford Shale Play
Haynesville Shale Play
Beginning in May, we will post the latest lease activity for each shale play on our website on a weekly basis, examining one shale play a week. Each quarter, we will take a look back at the data we gathered to give a better indication of lease trends in that area.
