Shale Play Lease Activity | Spring 2010 Tobin Quarterly Newsletter

Tobin Trends

P2 Energy Solutions researches and gathers a lot of information regarding leases in some of the big shale plays. Because of its detail, the data is crucial for many of our customers who are planning a strategy in the Barnett, the Eagle Ford, or the Haynesville shale plays.

Now we're going to share that data at a high level with the industry through our new "Tobin Trends" feature. We're introducing it in the new Spring 2010 Tobin Quarterly newsletter, which you can read here.

We're looking at how much lease activity there has been in the Barnett, Eagle Ford and Haynesville over a six-month period. You can easily see the effects of the recession and low natural gas prices when you see the comparison to the year before. But there are some areas that continue to see activity, despite both these factors.

Starting in May, we'll post new lease activity numbers on a monthly basis here in the P2 Newsroom. We'll also start taking a look at well permits and well completions in the shale play counties; look for that post next week.
